FORTHRIGHT
FORTHRIGHT - Straight forward, direct - follows different artists in conflict areas, who found ways to oppose the systems in charge. Their common tool against oppression and injustice and for peace and human rights is spoken word and rap music.
With the aim of portraying musicians or rather hip hop and rap artitsts I began FORTHRIGHT.
For more than six years I travelled to thirteen regions of crisis to find out that rap music can be seen as an universal approach for positiv change. I have met several great artists who are struggling against social injustice and abuse. Forthright goes back to the roots and values of hip hop. Forthright meaning direct and outspoken, shows what those artists do. They use their voice and raise it againt injustice and oppression, even though it menas to risk one‘s life and freedom.
Through many encounters I have come a long way which led me to contemplate, reflect and consider. I have a lot of new experiences and met so many great people which is, in fact, a great personal enrichment. I hope to allow and contribute to a better understanding through presenting this work.
